Learning modalities in professional education
The hallmark and strength of the Swiss VPET system is its direct relevance to working life. This is reflected in the various locations where learning takes place.
Preparation for federal examinations for professional qualifications takes place alongside employment. The individuals concerned work part-time and have the option of either preparing for the federal examination on their own or attending a preparatory course offered by private or public education providers in the evenings or at weekends.
In addition, professional education institutions offer a range full-time or part-time study programmes. While internships are completed as part of a full-time programme, part-time programmes require that students work in a relevant field at least 50% of a full-time workweek. The aim is to consolidate what has been learnt in the workplace.
